Carrie co-leads the firm’s marine insurance practice in London (with Elle Young) specialising in advising Lloyd’s syndicates and company market marine (re)insurers both in London and internationally. Carrie provides coverage advice, handles disputed claims and deals with liability defence work across all types of marine insurance. Her expertise includes dealing with hull and machinery, war risks, P&I, charterers’ risks, and other marine liability claims.

As a member of the firm’s wider Insurance & Reinsurance group, Carrie also acts for clients in the fields of political risk and trade credit, professional liability, and property damage and business interruption.

A litigator as well as an insurance lawyer, Carrie is adept at handling factually complex matters, with an excellent eye for detail and an ability to build good relationships with witnesses and experts. She has managed diverse disputes from the initial advice stage to trial (and appeal), arbitration hearing and/or mediation. Carrie’s advice on dispute resolution strategy, including at mediation, is valued by her clients.

Carrie has previously undertaken two client secondments to the legal departments of a major London broker and a Malaysian ship owning company. While on secondment, Carrie advised on contentious and non-contentious legal issues.

Recent cases in the marine side include:

>  Advising reinsurers on claims cooperation / follow the settlements issues

>  Instructed by hull underwriters following a collision to advise on coverage, including investigating breach of warranty and misrepresentation issues
