Martin is an Associate in Ithe shipping group, specialising in Admiralty and contractual matters, as well as yacht and superyacht disputes.

Martin qualified in the firm’s London office, gaining broad experience of contentious practice, including: P&I work for owners and charterers; collisions; grounding and sinking incidents; marine and non-marine insurance; oil-rig refurbishment disputes; and a variety of matters in the yacht and superyacht industry. He has also worked on compliance and regulatory matters relating to modern slavery and anti-corruption. His focus is now on the shipping and yacht and superyacht sectors, where he has particular experience in legally and technically complex cases.

>  Acting for charterers and their P&I insurers in London arbitration arising out of major vessel damage resulting from cargo explosion: advising on charterers’ defences and strength of counterclaim; assisting with pleadings; instructing chemists, tanker expert and broker expert; advising on mediation prospects.

>  Acting for owners and their P&I insurers in tripartite proceedings in High Court and High Court of Singapore arising out of a collision during an at-sea bunkering operation: advising owners on strength of claim; assisting with High Court pleadings and overseeing Singapore pleadings; representing owners at settlement negotiations; drafting tripartite settlement agreement and overseeing return of security.

>  Acting for a maritime security company in London arbitration involving issues anti-corruption, interpretation of BIMCO Guardcon, insolvency, blackmail and defamation.
