Maureen is a Partner in the Singapore office specialising in shipping, energy and international trade.

Maureen’s shipping practice covers various aspects, including charterparty disputes, carriage of goods by sea and cargo claims, and ship sale and purchase disputes. She also provides non-contentious advice to clients in these areas, with her dispute resolution experience giving her the edge in negotiating and drafting contracts for clients. Her energy practice includes advising major contractors to energy companies on disputes relating to the construction and employment of offshore assets, as well as negotiating and drafting contracts in these areas. In addition to handling trade disputes arising from commodities sale and purchase contracts, including documentary credits matters. Maureen also advises on the drafting of commodities trading contracts.

Maureen also has considerable experience of arbitration in Singapore (SIAC, SCMA and ad hoc), London (LMAA, ICC, UNCITRAL and ad hoc) and Indonesia (BANI), and English and Singapore court litigation.

She previously worked in our Shanghai office and is fluent in Mandarin.

Recent cases

  • Advising a ship-owner in respect of a casualty involving claims for port damage and breach safe port warranty claims against charterers.
  • Acting for a ship-owner in London arbitration in respect of contamination of a cargo of coal. 
  • Advising owners in respect of the construction of a series of drilling rigs, including issues relating to defects and delay.  
  • Advising a major offshore contractor in arbitration and litigation proceedings in Indonesia in respect of the installation of a sub-sea pipeline.
  • Advising charterers on long term charters of a series of gas carriers.
  • Advising sellers in a FOSFA arbitration arising out of a dispute relating to the non-delivery of a cargo.
