Paul acts for clients on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious matters, having represented shipowners, P&I Clubs, underwriters, charterers, banks, entrepreneurs, investment funds, and private investors. Prior to joining Ince & Co, Paul was the head of legal for a large shipping group with international offices. Given his commercial background, he has a reputation for managing complex transactions in an entrepreneurial, methodical, and effective manner. On the contentious side, he is known for his pragmatic and innovative approach to handling and settling legal disputes.

Having spent several years in the UAE, he has developed a comprehensive knowledge of the UAE laws and systems, allowing him a better understanding of both the Common law jurisdictions of the DIFC and ADGM, as well as the Civil law system of the local UAE courts. Throughout his career he has been involved in matters before the English, UAE, and DIFC Courts, as well as complex international arbitrations under the LMAA and DIAC Rules.

Paul is an active member of the UAE’s legal, shipping, technology and startup communities. In 2018, he was named DIFC Young Lawyer of the Year at the annual DIFC Legal Gala (an award he was also shortlisted for in 2017), while in 2016 he was named Seatrade Young Person of the Year at the annual Seatrade (Middle East, Indian Subcontinent & Africa) Maritime Awards in recognition of his work within the UAE shipping community. He is regularly invited to participate in and speak at shipping and technology conferences, including (amongst others) an invitation to moderate an innovation session at NorShipping 2017 in Oslo. Paul was also recently invited to become a member of the City, University of London MENA Advisory Board.
