Will is a shipping, trade and offshore energy specialist. He acts for a number of the world's largest trading houses, energy contractors and ship-owners/operators. He has been a partner since 2007 and provides commercial advice on the production, trade and transportation of oil, gas (including LNG) and other commodities. His litigation expertise (both in England and internationally) is extensive with Will regularly managing major disputes in international institutional arbitrations (LCIA, ICC, SIAC, LMAA etc.) and in High Court proceedings.

As well as litigating energy, commodities and shipping disputes, Will is a key member of the firm's specialist LNG and offshore projects teams assisting clients with transactions in relation to LNG, FPSO, FSRU, FLNG and offshore drilling projects along with associated contracts such as construction, conversion and shipbuilding agreements, joint ventures and operational services agreements. He also assists clients with the negotiation and drafting of commodities’ sale contracts, joint venture and profit sharing arrangements and various derivatives products.

Shipbuilding/Offshore

>  Representing an international drilling contractor in defending a USD700m claim pursued by a Korean shipyard in respect of the cancellation for delay of a state of the art semi-submersible drilling rig.

>  Defending a European accommodation unit owner/operator against a US$125 m delay and disruption claim pursued by a Korean shipyard following cancellation of the unit.

>  Providing advice and assistance to a drilling contractor in respect of a US$375 m international arbitration with a leading shipyard concerning design obligations in relation to a series of new build semi-submersible drilling rigs.

>  Advising a major FPSO owner/operator in respect of US$100m dispute arising under a long term lease agreement concluded with an Oil Major.

>  Representing a drilling contractor in relation to a disputes arising under a drilling contract with the Oil Major client in respect of upgrade work and contract duration.

Commodities/Transportation


>  Representing a major commodities trader in multiple LCIA arbitration and High Court proceedings in respect of a US$80m dispute relating to two cargoes of Angolan crude oil.

>  Assisting a ship-owner in respect of allegations concerning the providence of the oil cargo shipped on board, resulting in a Court ordered sale of the cargo and multiple arrest and attachment proceedings in West Africa.

>  Assisting a major international shipping company in connection with the termination of six long term bareboat charterparties and the US$120m claims arising.

>  Advising on the work out of loans and debts in respect of a fleet of offshore support and pipe-laying vessels including the repossession of the vessels by their owners and pursuit of claims against the defaulting charterer.
