Decommissioning

As our energy practice has matured, so have the markets we have been working in. As fields are abandoned, the equipment must be removed, the wells made safe and cleaned up. We have seen considerable growth in these activities. We understand that taking something away is very different from building and installing it in the first place.

We have applied our 60 years of experience in the energy sector and work with key industry organisations to ensure we are market leaders in understanding the issues that are particular to decommissioning. The advice and support we give to you is specific and up-to-the-minute on the issues you face.

That means we are ideally placed to help you navigate the regulatory requirements. We will assist you with risk analysis, the negotiation of new projects and the contract terms and we handle operational problems and disputes of all sizes.

We deal with issues including:

  • regulatory matters
  • abandonment and post-abandonment liabilities
  • decommissioning security arrangements
  • environmental risks
  • limitation of liability
  • responsibility under offshore services contracts including heavy lift contracts and other charterparties
  • waste shipment, disposal and recycling
We have a dedicated team of decommissioning specialists, available 24/7 for whatever issues you are facing. They are capable of immediate travel and can work with you in your office or on your job site.

We are active members of Decom North Sea and the Decommissioning Work Group of Oil & Gas UK’s Legal Issues Forum.

We would be delighted to meet you and learn more about your activities, the issues you face and your plans for the future.
